A woman who tore and burned her wedding dress after filing for divorce says it was a rewarding experience.

Nicola White, 38, shared the moment she set her white dress on fire during a ‘destroy the dress’ photoshoot.

The 38-year-old, who works as a private assistant, married her ex-partner in 2005 and claims the couple filed for divorce in the summer of 2021.

Nicola, from Manchester, shared footage from the shoot, including her tearing the dress with her hands.

She said: “It was very cathartic to do and I felt very empowered after that. The whole day was so much fun that we went to a farm to do it.

“We took pictures of me wearing the dress and then I took it off so I could take a few pictures of it in the dirt and stuff.

“After that I ripped off some of the liner and diapers which was really fun.

“Then at the end he went into that barrel and I set it on fire! We took loads of pictures of that and they look great.”

Nicola described the photo shoot as an empowering experience

She said: “The best part was setting it on fire, it was so satisfying! I enjoyed ripping parts of it.

“I felt like a weight had been lifted from me and I vented all the anger I had during filming. Now I can leave the past in the past.”

Nicola found the opportunity to shoot on social media.

Nicola said: “A photographer posted on Facebook about another woman who had one and asked if anyone was interested.

“All my friends were tagging me because I just broke up with my husband, saying I had to go, so I did!

I’ve never done a photo shoot in my life, so I didn’t know what to do.

“I told Jenine, my photographer, that she had to tell me how to pose and stuff because I didn’t know what to do.”

She added: “The marriage failed despite everything I did to try to save it.”
