The wedding photography industry has been one of the industries hardest hit during pandemic shutdowns. While the turnover of most wedding photography groups fell dramatically, some wedding photographers had no choice but to sell their equipment to make ends meet. However, it soon became apparent that weddings were inevitable and the wedding industry picked up with some adjustments. An essence of privacy has been added to every aspect of it.

The rise of “intimate” marriage
“It wasn’t until August 2020 that the wedding photography industry was able to resume service. For most of 2020, intimate weddings have been extremely popular and that’s what we photographed, ”said Jobayer Hossain Shuvo, CEO and Chief Photographer of Dream Weaver.
Guest lists usually never exceeded 150 people at intimate weddings. Rooftops, lawns, living rooms and resorts have replaced community centers as wedding venues. Along with the preferred location and guest list changes, all wedding budgets have been slashed, whether it be for clothing, event management, lighting, decor, photography or food.

While some clients have opted for photo shoots, featuring only the bride and groom, others have given up on professional wedding photography altogether by assigning friends or family members to do the photography. Packages and tailor-made offers were highly sought after by potential customers. Changing locations, budget adjustments, and health issues have often resulted in a single photographer representing an entire team. Unlike before, community centers no longer limit the duration of events due to temporary closures. This often led customers to request packages that lasted up to eight to twelve hours at private locations instead of the usual five.
Before the pandemic, wedding events were much more than the marriage of two people. Families involved in the wedding would have to take on the responsibilities of hundreds of guests and take care of countless accommodation-related chores and obligations, which are usual by-products of large weddings. They also had to constantly deal with issues related to catering, decoration and clothing.

With a reduced guest list, drastic cuts to wedding budgets, and a change of venue, the focus returned to the bride and groom and became a celebration of the bonds between close friends and family present at the wedding.
“Intimate weddings in the era of the pandemic are basically the weddings we would have back then with a modern twist. The ones we saw last year were similar to the ’90s weddings that took place at home and had a more comfortable vibe. We may not have an alpona embellishing the staircase, or one person doing all the shopping, but the atmosphere remains similar. We photographers have moved on to capturing candid more intimate because the setting automatically allowed it, ”said Jobayer Hossain Shuvo.
With shorter guest lists, applicants generally become more natural and fueled by emotions.
“Only people close to the bride and groom are present. The venues for these intimate weddings are usually in the house itself. People are well in their comfort zone because of the guest list and location. more spontaneous, relaxed and connected with one another, which enhances any photos of heartfelt ‘moments’ we captured, ”noted Ishrat Amin, CEO of Ishrat Amin Photography.

Aside from the candid ones, the posed photos were also enhanced by the contextual changes. Intimate weddings have provided photographers with a range of new elements to work with, making the photoshoot of each wedding noticeably distinct from the others. Each lawn, roof, or living room offered its own unique aesthetic, making photoshoots unique.
“We have had significantly more opportunities to take pictures. We could use new sources of light, be it table lamps or natural daylight. We could work with the sky from a rooftop, use the grass and shrubs, take the photo on the streets and basically use props and settings that we just didn’t have access to before. Community centers don’t offer as many great visual opportunities because of the uniformity, ”said Prito Reza, wedding photographer and founder of Wedding Diary.
COVID-19 and its consequences
Right now, while some photography groups and companies are getting closer to the sales volume they experienced in 2019, others feel they still have a long way to go before they embark on the recovery. . This wedding season is expected to be particularly hectic as those who previously postponed their wedding ceremonies plan to make up for lost time by getting fat.

Changes in public taste for wedding planning and association wedding photography have persisted. People are starting to disconnect the grandeur and the extravagance of marriage. While the long-term effects on wedding trends are unpredictable, a range of factors has led various people to opt for small-scale weddings, even when community centers are an option. Whether it’s due to the uncertainty of the future, the need to keep costs down, or its general stress-free nature, intimate weddings can have a lot to do with this wedding season. While some families opt for a mix between larger community events and one or two family events, others mix the two simultaneously.
“There is an emerging trend where people use community centers as a venue, while keeping the guest list at a limit of 100 to 150 people. Although props, lighting and back- The usual intimate marriage plan can no longer be used, the celebration of relationships and bonds are still apparent in the candid, ”observed Ishrat Amin.

Adding a pre-wedding shoot can also be beneficial. Pre-wedding photoshoots are a great way for your photographer to get to know you, your story, your tastes, your facial expressions, and your most flattering profiles. Photography is a form of storytelling, which is greatly enhanced when both parties get to know each other. Plus, pre-shoots can get as creative as you want, from photoshoots around the two of you sharing a cup of tea to ones revolving around common hobbies.
If intimate weddings are your interest, you may want to consider alternating between bigger and bigger events and intimate ones. Intimate occasions can help sprinkle some relaxation during hectic event sequences, help you cut costs, and also remind you of how much love you are surrounded by.
