Newlyweds in a road accident in Pyuthan, Nepal; 8 dead
A tragic accident in Pyuthan in Nepal resulted in the death of eight people. These eight people were part of a wedding party that traveled by jeep from Lung Baune in Naubahini village to Liwang in Gaumukhi village. The accident happened in Okharpata on Saturday morning.
A report by Nepalese news agency Khabarhub said five women and three men died in the accident. The jeep was also transporting the newlyweds. It is unclear at the time of writing whether the bride and groom are among those who died. The jeep fell 300 meters down the road killing six of those who died while two died when taken to hospital.
Basanti Khadka, 40, Keshari Khadka, 30, Bal Bahadur Budhamagar, 50, Khim Bahadur Khatri, 32 and Nandi Khadka, 50 are among those who died. Officials familiar with the developments told Khabarhub that the identities of the others have yet to be established. They also said six other people were injured in the crash. The injured are being treated at the Bijuwar district hospital.
Beni Prasad Gaire, a police official, told ANI that the jeep was on its way to the groom’s house when the accident happened.
In separate unrelated incidents, one person died in an accident in Pyuthan earlier this week. A teenager died in a motorcycle accident in Lamachaur, Mandavi. He died while receiving treatment at Bijuwar District Hospital. Earlier in December, two other people also died in a road accident in Pyuthan.
