Auraiya: When it comes to arranged marriages, education is one of the many things families look for. However, many manage to put false details on the same ones that are enough to cheat someone into marrying them.
An example of this comes from Uttar Pradesh. A woman named Archana called off her wedding because the groom couldn’t read the newspaper without her glasses.
A native of Auraiya, a man named Arjun Singh arranged for his daughter Archana to marry a man named Shivam. The latter’s family said he was a “well-educated” man, which is why they agreed to Singh’s daughter to marry him.
It was on the wedding day that the problem surfaced. According to News 18, the groom arrived with glasses over his eyes, to the point that everyone is suspicious of him as to whether he has poor eyesight.
“When the baraat procession arrived at the house on June 20, the groom was constantly wearing glasses all the time,” Arjun Singh told the news agency. All the chatter started about his eyesight. Then, with the bride, everyone asked her to read the Hindi newspaper without her glasses. Since he didn’t, Archana called off the wedding.
This is not where it ended. The bride’s family filed a complaint at the nearby police station. They also asked the groom’s family to return all the dowry given to me. It included money and a motorbike. Shivam’s family has yet to return it, which is why an FIR has been filed against them.
A similar incident took place some time ago in UP where the bride learned that her future husband may be illiterate. She asked him to recite the table of 2 which he failed.
